Twin Hype : Lyrical Rundown (from For Those Who Like To Groove 12")

Twin Hype : Lyrical Rundown (Profile, 1989)
Style : What A Brother Know (Select, 1990)

This record is really special, as far as I know this maybe the only rap record wher you could see people wearing old dirty Air Force. Actually Daddy Rich has some fucked up sneakers on the cover of "Derelicts Of Dialect", but then again he's supposed to be homeless. But not a neat looking homeless like Common Sense on "Can I Borrow A Dollar".

This is also one of the hardest work of Twin Hype. Like most of their tracks Lyrical Rundown was produced by Rick Pagan aka Hollywood Impact, best known for his work with King Sun, and a bunch of long forgotten hip-house acts. From what I understand this song was supposed to appear on their never released second album "Double Barrel". But by that time the hip-house trend was over and nobody was interested in them anymore.

Style is the other duo who was working with The Hollywood Impact, much more hardcore, but unfortunately their career was even shorter. If you want to know more aobout Hollywood impact, a year ago Can I Bring My Gat did an entry about him which quickly became a meeting point for his family and friends. I'm sure you can holler at him through this page !

Twin Hype love; nice. 8-)

Small correction, though: Double Barrel was released... "Lyrical Rundown" is the first song on side 2.

Anyway, nice blog. I'm definitely checkin' it. It's good to see some solid 12" write-ups and not just some ripped mainstream CDs.

are you talking about the Double barrel EP, with 5 songs and skits ? I don't remember seeing a second full length.

Yup, that's the one. :)
The first song on that EP, "Nothing Can Save Ya" is possibly the Twin's best song. More great DJing by Shameek and production by Hollywood.

Whats good SLURG.....

By going through your blog i can see theres no doubt your a hip hop purist, and as a purist brother i thank you. I am the Hollywood Impact. I'm still doing my thing even though i'm dealing with that monster they call Multiple Sclerosis. As you can imagine i'm not the Hollywood Impact anymore that was my P.K.A 18 years ago. There for since i don't use that P.K.A anymore i can now reveal my true name Nevar Cruz. I could have never imagined back then, that my music would end up touching people all over the world. But i am so blessed with the emails i get from Germany to Spain, its obvious the sleepless nights in the studio were worth it. I'd love to send you some of my latest work. Stay in touch.....

Hey Slurg, are you the same Slurg I met in Europe? I have been searching for the "What a Brother Know" joint since I first saw the video on Video Music Box many years ago. Plus I have asked countless heads if they know the joint and now I find it so -- THANK YOU! Would love to hear the rest of the record.
